We congratulate you on your engagement and your decision to celebrate the beginning of your lives together as husband and wife in the presence of God and His church.\u00a0 We are pleased and ready to assist you in the year-long process of discernment, preparation and planning.<\/p>\n\n<p>The Catholic Church understands marriage as a \u201ccovenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life\u201d (<em>Catechism<\/em>\u00a0<em>1601<\/em>). When both spouses are baptized, their marriage is a sacrament, called matrimony. As a Catholic Church we are most interested in assisting you in the preparation for married life.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>St. Mary&#8217;s Parish welcomes engaged couples who are registered parishioners, whose parents are registered parishioners, or couples living in Waterford or a surrounding community who\u00a0are interested in becoming registered parishioners.<\/p>\n\n<p>The initial step in the process is<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/staugustineparish.org\/preliminary-wedding-information\/\">\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>the completion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/stmaryswaterford.org\/Site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Preliminary-Wedding-Information-St-Mary-of-Assumption.pdf\">Preliminary Wedding Application<\/a>.
